Power Duo: Leah & Marcus Share Their Story

From classmates to partners in love and bodybuilding, Leah and Marcus’s story is a testament to the power of mutual support and determination. Leah, the newly crowned Miss Bikini Singapore 2024 at the Fitness Movement Championship, didn’t begin her fitness journey as a seasoned athlete. Instead, it was Marcus, her partner and motivator, who introduced her to the gym—and ultimately, to the stage. Together, they embody the spirit of determination, and the rewards of a shared vision for health and achievement. White Room Studio was thrilled to capture portraits of their unique bond in a couple and glamour photoshoot held in our elegant studio space.

The Beginning: A Chance Meeting at University

Leah and Marcus first crossed paths as university classmates in a group project, a meeting that laid the foundation for a relationship built on trust and shared growth.

Leah: “We met at uni during a group project. Marcus had such a determined personality—it was inspiring. As we worked together, we got to know each other better, and things just naturally clicked.”

It wasn’t long before Marcus’s passion for fitness became a shared journey.

Marcus: “When we started dating, I introduced Leah to the gym. She wasn’t familiar with working out at first, but I saw how quickly she took to it. Her drive to improve and learn was incredible.”

What began as casual gym sessions grew into a love for fitness, with Marcus encouraging Leah to challenge herself further.

Leah: “Marcus was the one who first suggested bodybuilding. I wasn’t sure about it initially, but as I trained and saw myself improving, I started to love the discipline and routine of it.”

2024 has been a big year for White Room Studio, not just because of the milestone anniversary, but also because of something that feels almost poetic in its timing. “The Girl and Her Piano,” White Room Studio’s first ever documentary, premiered this year. The film follows Hillary, Elaine’s daughter, who became the youngest and first foreigner to perform at Bhutan’s Royal Highlands Festival.

And if that wasn’t impressive enough, she had already played the same piece in Antarctica earlier in 2023, a haunting melody composed by Eric Bettens to highlight the urgency of climate change.

From the icebergs of Antarctica to the peaks of the Himalayas, the story of Hillary’s music is a testament to the delicate balance of our world and a reminder of the power of art to move us—whether it’s through a piano or a photograph.

And as if all of that weren’t enough, the accolades keep pouring in. Q&A with Qatrisha Zairyah

White Room Studio recently had the pleasure of interviewing Qatrisha Zairyah, a trailblazing model, fashion advisor, and advocate for women, especially within the transgender community. In this candid Q&A, Qatrisha reflects on her journey as Singapore’s first transgender finalist for Miss Universe Singapore 2024, shedding light on her advocacy for gender inclusivity and the challenges she’s faced and overcome along the way.

With her charismatic personality and drive for positive social change, Qatrisha embodies resilience and self-empowerment. She speaks passionately about Singapore’s growing acceptance and shares insights into her experiences at international pageants, her thoughts on professional photography’s role in brand-building, and her commitment to fostering a more inclusive environment. This interview offers a glimpse into the strength and grace that define her mission to inspire and uplift others.

Can you tell us a bit about your journey and what motivated you to become an advocate for women, especially within the transgender community?

Qatrisha: “I feel that I am here not just to be transgender representation. I represent women of all backgrounds. Being a role model or a beauty queen isn’t limited to a specific gender. It has to come from individuals who can serve as a voice and a positive example for future generations. It is so important for this aspect to be relatable in our society. By embracing this idea, we could have a better environment with more inspiring people around us.

You just have to be who you are as an individual or as a person. To be a representation not just for our community, you have to be a great representation of yourself and be the best version of yourself in order for society to accept people like us.”

I remember you mentioned Singapore and how it has changed and how it has progressed. Can you speak a little bit more about it?

Qatrisha: “When I was in Miss International Queen last year in Pattaya, I was one of the representatives from Singapore, where I got first runner-up in Pattaya. I spoke a lot about our country and the acceptance, especially when we’ve done our sex reassignment; we can change our gender identity legally. I think it’s a good stepping stone for us, our community especially, to be more accepting and also good for our future generations.”

Since you mentioned Pattaya, you noted that this dress was made in Thailand. Could you tell me more about it?

Qatrisha: “This dress is made to measure right on my body because last year when I participated in a pageant, I had sponsors from Gracemae Bangkok. They sponsored me for my preliminary and final evening gown. This year, I participated in Miss Universe Singapore 2024, so they asked me, “What can we help you with?” Of course, I needed another beautiful gown again. I felt that it really represents me and my personality as a person, and they know my body morphology and what they are doing. They asked me, “What color do you prefer?” I said, “Silver.” It’s going to be outstanding for me on stage because I had one before in the preliminary and received a lot of compliments. When I wore this, when I walked, a lot of people thought I was gliding down the aisle, and I think I’m serving it very well.”

What advice would you give to trans women regarding relationships, especially in light of your recent separation?

Qatrisha: “In my recent separation from my ex-husband, I learned a lot. He’s a good person who allowed me to be who I am from day one until now because we knew each other from national service when I was still a boy, and until I became a successful woman. For me, the message I would spread to the younger generation or those who are going to be on that path is to just be yourself. Whoever is going to love you will love you as a person. No one can justify who you are as an individual except for yourself. Be true to yourself and to the people out there, especially in society.”

How was your experience with White Room Studio?

How important do you think professional photography is in building a strong personal brand, especially in today’s social media-driven world?

Qatrisha: “Photography has become essential in today’s social media landscape, especially on the platforms I use. It’s so important for me to portray my true self, and having a photographer who can adapt to their subjects makes all the difference. White Room Studio’s adaptability and connection with their clients enable us to present the best versions of ourselves in whatever we’re doing. Their ability to bring out authenticity makes each shot feel natural and powerful, allowing me to express myself confidently and with impact.”

How do you think White Room Studio’s photographer handled that?

Qatrisha: “”He did an incredible job directing me and brought a level of expertise that truly impressed me. He guided me into poses I’d never tried before, which felt unique and exciting. His dedication and creativity made the session feel special, and I loved how he showed me the results as we went along. It was such a new and refreshing experience, and I can’t wait to see the final images. White Room Studio’s attention to detail made it an unforgettable glamour shoot.”

You love the final product?

Qatrisha: “The final product was outstanding. The quality was so perfect that no editing was even necessary. White Room Studio’s work speaks for itself; they capture every detail so beautifully that the natural outcome is already breathtaking. I couldn’t be more excited and satisfied with the results.”

You’ve built a powerful brand through your journey in fashion and advocacy. How do you see professional photography, such as that offered by White Room Studio, contributing to the way the public perceives you?

Qatrisha: “Social media only shows a glimpse—a front door—to who we are. What truly brings stories to life is when photographers go beyond that surface and connect with us, understanding our personalities. It’s about building a bond that allows those stories to be told not just through our words, but through the images themselves. White Room Studio excels at capturing these deeper narratives, making every picture a reflection of who we are and the stories we wish to share.”

White Room Studio specializes in capturing authentic and timeless moments. If you were to have a personal branding photoshoot with White Room Studio in the future, what key elements or messages would you want the images to convey about you?

Qatrisha: “Well, I believe in the advocacy of “Home for a Change,” which resonates deeply with my personal experiences. Having struggled to pay rent in the past, this initiative feels very relatable to my journey. Through a partnership with White Room Studio, I see a wonderful opportunity to further develop this advocacy and share my story. I want the images from the photoshoot to convey resilience, hope, and the importance of affordable housing. It’s not just about capturing my essence; it’s about using my platform to explore and promote the causes I believe in, making a positive impact in our community.”

‘The Girl and Her Piano’ chronicles the extraordinary journey of Hillary O’Sullivan, a 12-year-old Singaporean pianist and climate ambassador, who was invited to perform at Bhutan’s Royal Highland Festival in October 2023 for His Majesty the King of Bhutan. Hillary is the first foreigner to be invited to participate in the festival since its inception by the King in 2016.

This performance, originally played by Hilary in Antarctica in February 2023, was composed by Eric Bettens to reflect the dire consequences of climate change. As the youngest climate ambassador during the Antarctic Climate Expedition, Hilary’s music speaks to the fragility of the world—whether in the icy landscapes of Antarctica or the towering Himalayas, where climate change is felt even in the highest peaks.

The premiere of The Girl and Her Piano drew a large audience, eager to witness this powerful documentary. Among the highlights of the evening were heartfelt speeches from the Bhutan team, particularly by Karma, who shared a poignant childhood memory. He reminisced about how, as a child, he would make ice cream by simply leaving it out in the open, letting the natural cold do its magic. Now that world, he reflected somberly, is slipping away. highlighting the impact of our changing environment.
