HOME OR STUDIO SESSION?
One of the questions we hear most from new parents is whether they should book a newborn photoshoot at home or come into our studio.
The answer? There isn’t a right or wrong choice.
Some families love the comfort and familiarity of home. Others prefer a studio where everything is already set up for beautiful portraits. We offer both because every family is different, and the best option depends on what feels most comfortable for you and your baby.
Here’s what to expect from each.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS DURING A HOME NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT?

A home newborn session is exactly what it sounds like. We come to you and photograph your family in the comfort of your own home, using the natural light and spaces that already exist.
We also bring along newborn props and a professional lighting setup where needed, allowing us to create beautiful portraits while keeping the session relaxed and comfortable.
Rather than recreating a full studio experience, we work with your home as it is, incorporating meaningful spaces like the nursery, bedroom or living room into your photographs.
For many families, staying at home also makes those early weeks a little easier. There’s no need to pack up or travel with your newborn. Instead, the session unfolds at your baby’s pace, making the experience feel calm and unhurried for everyone.
WHAT IF MY HOME IS TOO SMALL OR DOESN'T HAVE GREAT LIGHT?
Your home doesn’t need to look like it’s straight out of a magazine. We’ve photographed families in all kinds of homes, from cosy apartments to larger houses, and every session is approached differently.
Natural light will always vary from home to home, but we’ll work with the best light available and guide you to the spaces that photograph beautifully. If needed, we’ll also bring professional lighting to complement the natural light and create soft, flattering portraits.

The most important thing isn’t having the perfect home. It’s capturing this chapter of your family’s life in a place that’s meaningful to you. The nursery you lovingly prepared or the rocking chair where your baby spends most nights are details that make your photographs uniquely yours, and they’re memories that simply can’t be recreated anywhere else.
WHAT DO I PREPARE BEFOREHAND?
Not much at all. If there are a few meaningful items you’d like included, such as a favourite blanket, a keepsake or a special toy, simply set them aside before the session. A quick tidy of the areas we’ll be photographing, usually the nursery, bedroom or living room, is all that’s needed.
For outfits, we recommend choosing colours that complement your home and keeping things simple and comfortable. If you need inspiration, our Newborn Lookbook is a great place to start.
The rest is up to us. We’ll guide you through the session, help you make the most of your space, and create beautiful portraits while you focus on spending time with your newest family member.
WHAT IF MY BABY WONT SETTLE, OR THE SESSION DOESNT GO TO PLAN?
That’s completely normal, and it’s something we expect during every newborn session.
There will be time for feeding, nappy changes and plenty of cuddles if your baby needs them. There’s never any pressure to rush, and we’ll work around your baby’s natural rhythm throughout the session.
Because you’re at home, many babies also settle more easily in a familiar environment, surrounded by the sights, sounds and routines they already know.
Home sessions are also ideal if you’d like to include the whole family. Siblings, grandparents and even your pets are all welcome to join in, making it easy to capture everyone together without the need to travel.
WHY SOME PARENTS CHOOSE A NEWBORN STUDIO SHOOT
Some families simply prefer having everything prepared before they arrive.
Our studio at 219 River Valley Road is thoughtfully designed for newborn photography, with a calm environment, professional lighting and beautifully styled spaces ready for your family from the moment you walk in.
One of the biggest advantages of a studio session is the variety of portraits we can create in a single space. Our 2400 sq ft studio features different corners and settings, each with its own character, from heritage-inspired spaces to clean, minimalistic backdrops.
We also have a curated collection of wraps, blankets, baskets and props that complement your baby and add variety to your gallery.
Whether you love simple, natural portraits or something a little more styled, our studio gives us the flexibility to create a collection of images that feels timeless, personal and uniquely yours.
IS THERE A PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOME AND STUDIO SESSION?
Yes. The main difference between a studio and home newborn session is the additional preparation and travel involved.
Our weekday studio newborn sessions start from $490 for up to 4 pax. If you prefer the comfort and convenience of a home newborn session, there is an additional $150 home session fee to cover travel, setup and bringing the necessary equipment to your home.
For sessions held on weekends or public holidays, there is an additional $100 surcharge.
We offer both options because every family’s needs are different. A studio session gives you access to our fully prepared space, professional lighting and curated props, while a home session allows you to capture your newborn’s first days in the comfort and familiarity of your own home.

SO WHICH IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

If you’re recovering from birth, have older children at home or simply don’t feel like leaving the house, a home newborn session is often the easiest and most comfortable option.
If you’d prefer a wider range of styled portraits, complete control over lighting and access to professional props and backdrops, our studio at 219 River Valley Road may be the better fit.
Whichever you choose, the most important thing isn’t the location.
It’s preserving this short chapter before your tiny newborn grows into the next stage almost overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an additional fee for home newborn sessions?
Yes. Our weekday studio newborn sessions start from $490 for up to 4 pax. Home newborn sessions include an additional $150 home session fee to cover travel, setup and bringing the required photography equipment to your home.
We’d love to share more details with you! Feel free to reach out to us for availability and session enquiries.
Do I need to prepare my home before the session?
Not much. We bring our own wraps, blankets and styling pieces, and simply ask a few questions about your space beforehand, such as which rooms get the best natural light, so we can plan around it.
What is the best age for newborn photos?
The first two weeks are ideal if you want the classic sleepy, curled-up poses, since babies are naturally more flexible and settled at this stage. That said, sessions at one, two or three months old are just as meaningful, as babies are more alert by then and often show their first smiles.
How long does a newborn photoshoot take?
Sessions typically run around two hours. This gives enough time for feeding breaks, nappy changes, and settling your baby between backdrops, without rushing any part of the process.
What timings are available?
The earliest timeslot starts at 9am and the latest is 5pm. Do let us know which timeslot you prefer and we will do our best to accommodate your preferred date and timing.
Our standard newborn portraiture sessions are 2 hours, to allow more time for the baby and parents to take breaks between photos. It’s also super simple to book a newborn shoot on a weekday – enquire now to reserve your slot!
What if my baby is unwell or we need to reschedule?
No problem at all. We understand newborns can be unpredictable, and we’re happy to reschedule your session if your baby isn’t feeling well or the timing just doesn’t work out.
Can siblings or family members be included in the newborn photos?
Yes, siblings, family members and even pets are welcome to be part of the session. Our photographers are experienced at working with the whole family, not just the newborn.
