Capturing the joy of a family that spans generations is a special experience, and at White Room Studio, we’ve been making these moments timeless for over 17 years. Recognized as Singapore’s best family studio for 9 consecutive years by Tatler, our award-winning photographers know exactly how to make grandparents, parents and children feel comfortable in front of the camera.
How to Prepare for a Multi-Generation Family Photoshoot?
- Coordinate outfits with neutral or festive tones rather than matching exactly
- Schedule the shoot when children and seniors are most comfortable
- Keep hair and makeup natural for all family members
- Bring small comfort items for kids and grandparents
- Focus on connection, laughter, and interaction, rather than perfection

Step 1: Relax and Be Present
The secret to a successful multi-generation photoshoot is relaxation and connection. Forget forcing smiles or stiff poses. Our photographers are trained to guide families naturally, capturing authentic expressions across all ages.
Step 2: Outfits That Work for Everyone
- Coordinate, don’t match: choose a palette (soft neutrals, creams, muted reds)
- Comfort is key: grandparents and kids need freedom to move
- Avoid loud patterns: keep focus on faces and emotions

“Always a pleasure to do a photoshoot at White Room Studio! It’s our 2nd time working with them, and it’s always a joy. They are very considerate in making sure we are comfortable with the stairs, the set, and the poses. When I came with my grandparents, I asked for a photographer who could speak Chinese and they happily accommodated us. They know how to pose you and don’t make you feel awkward or stiff. I highly recommend choosing them to do your next family photoshoot! Don’t go for those stiff pictures with an awkward backdrop. Try something fun and new! All their photographers, admin, and helpers are so talented.” – Alison Fong

Step 5: Bring Little Comforts for Everyone
- Favorite toy or blanket for children
- Water, snacks, or a small treat
- Reading glasses, shawls, or other comfort items for grandparents
These small touches make a big difference in keeping everyone happy and engaged.
Step 6: Capturing Memories You’ll Treasure
- Focus on candid, natural interactions
- Include group shots and intimate pairs (grandparents with grandchildren, parents with kids)
- Let photographers guide without stress
- Trust the experience of our award-winning team to capture timeless family portraits
